Hunter X Hunter

Hunter X Hunter is one of the longest running manga series to date, published in Weekly Shonen Jump. The first episode of Hunter X Hunter appeared in March 3, 1998 and so far, at least 32 volumes have been collected. The Story

Hunter X Hunter focuses on the story of Gon Freecss, a young boy who lived with his aunt on Whale Island, believing that he is an orphan. After learning that his father is still alive and is now a Hunter, Gon decided to take the Hunter Examination, be a Hunter and find his father. During the examination, Gon meets new friends such as Kurapika, Leorio and Kiullua. The story revolves on the adventures learning, challenges and battles that each character have to face in order to become the best Hunter.

The Hunters

The hunters of the Hunter X Hunter world are known for being elite, talented and skillful. Before becoming a hunter, one must pass the Hunter Examination (passing rate is 1:100,000). Once a hunter passed all the exams and learned all the Nen techniques, they get their license.

Hunter X Hunter: Manga Series

Yoshihiro Togashi written and illustrated the manga series of Hunter X Hunter. There are now 32 volumes collected in 2012 and in 2011, Togashi began rereleasing Hunter X Hunter in a magazine format. The 32 volumes of Hunter X Hunter have been released in North America via Viz Media in English format.

The manga series has sold more than 60 million copies as of 2012, making it one of the most successful manga series for Shueisha (ranked #8). After a year, the sales have grown to 65 million. Most critics find Hunter X Hunter a great anime with a great plot and great characters. Jason Thompson from Manga: the Complete Guide added that the series’ subplots are enough to make each own storyline, making the anime to go on forever. Just like YuYu Hakusho, Togashi’s last manga series, Hunter X Hunter is also a well-received and much loved manga series among critics for its character and narrative.

Hunter X Hunter: Anime Series

The anime series of Hunter X Hunter was directed by Kazuhiro Furuhashi who also directed Rurouni Kenshin anime series. The anime was broadcasted by Fuji Television for a total of 62 episodes, replacing the time slot of the finished YuYu Hakusho. The anime series closely followed the manga series with less violence to avoid censorship and to make it more available to younger audiences. When it was aired, it ranked #6 among the top anime of Japan.

A second adaptation of the manga series was broadcasted in 2011, 10 years after the first adaptation ended. The second adaption was directed by Hiroshi Kojina with 148 episodes. With the second adaptation of Hunter X Hunter, reviews had been overly positive. One review stated that the second adaptation leveled up in everything, sound design, pacing and animation.

Hunter X Hunter Beloved Characters

Gon Freecss – an orphan who found out that his father is alive and is a Hunter. He sets out to be a hunter himself so he can find his father.

Kurapika – he wants to become a Hunter so he can avenge the death of their Kurta Clan and retrieve the scarlet-glowing eyes taken by the thieves from their corpses.

Leorio – he wants to be a Hunter so he can earn from it and be able to finance his medical education.

Killua – member of the world’s most notorious assassin but wanted to forget about his past and become a Hunter.
