Hozuki no Reitetsu (Hozuki’sCoolheadedness)

If you are not afraid of hell and judgment, you must watch Hozuki’sCoolheadedness or commonly referred to as Hozuki no Reitetsu. This Japanese manga series written by NatsumiEguchi talks about the story of a demon named Hozuki who wroks for the King of Hell.

The Story

In the story of Hozuki no Reitetsu (Hozuki’sCoolheadedness), there are different types of hell and a King or the Judge of Hell determines the type of hell that a dead person will go through upon entering hell. The King has a helper, a demon named Hozuki. Hozuki is a serious thinking person who works on solving issues and problems occurring in hell every day. Hozuki is considered a genius, like someone who works in Wall Street and with his skill, the hell business runs smoothly as ever.

The Characters

Hozuki – is the main character of Hozuki no Reitetsu (Hozuki’sCoolheadedness). He is talented, skillful and a genius that repairs trouble in hell.

Karauri and Nasubi – are two of the most prominent and popular employees of Hozuki in hell

King Enma – is the King and Judge of Hell and the boss of Hozuki

Hakutaku – is considered as Hozuki’s rival. He wroks as a Chinese medicine expert and is working in Shangri-La.

Momotarō – is Hakutaku’s assistant and is a known samurai when he was younger. He owns a money, a dog and a pheasant.

Hozuki no Reitetsu as a Manga

The first issue of Hozuki no Reitetsu manga was published by Weekly Morning Seinen Magazine, another publication owned by Kodansha.  It came out in March of 2011. Since its release, a total of 20 volumes have been collected so far with the 20th being released last November, 2015. Some of the volumes were also released in a special edition with a specialized cover.

Hozuki no Reitetsu Anime Adaptation

The first season go Hozuki no Reitetsuwas broadvasted in January, 2014 by Mainichi Broadcasting System. It became available in Blu Ray and DVD copy in August and was also made available in Crunchyroll for streaming. A dubbed version of the anime adaptation of Hozuki no Reitetsu was made available in UK, USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa. The anime adaptation had 13 episodes.

The 14th volume of Hozuki no Reitetsu is one of the series’ most sold volume with 7 million copies sold in Japan as of 2014. All of the other volumes became best-selling as well during their releases. Overall, Hozuki no Reitetsu is one of the top 10 best-selling manga series in Japan in 2014.

As for the DVD release of its anime adaptation, Hozuki no Reitetsu’s DVD sales reached the top 10 according to Oricon’s record. When the first and second volume of its DVD was released simultaneously, it ranked 1 and 2 respectively.

A spin-off series entitled Hozuki no Reitetsu ~Shiro no Ashiato is now being published by Kodansha’s Nakayoshi magazine. The spin –off is about Shiro’s story.
