Changes on Cardcaptor Sakura’s Manga Series
Although the manga lasted for 4 years while the anime adaptation only aired for 2 years, there were some parts of the anime that were not on the manga series. For one reason, the plot of the anime series was longer, some scenes were delayed while some dialogues were stretched. One example is the revelation of Cereberus’ true form which was revealed only after Yue appeared in the anime. In the original manga series, there are only 19 Clow Cards as well but in the anime series, there are 52 cards and Sakura even created a 53rd card. Sakura also shown “hope” in the anime series (where the 53rd card came from) something that she didn’t have in the manga series.
Cardcaptor Sakura as an Anime Series
The anime series lasted for three seasons with 70 episode and was directed by MorioAsaka. Clamp worked full time with the animation team during the airing of CCS on the NHK television. The three seasons are now available on DVD. Although the anime was aired in North America, it was heavily edited to remove some scenes including same sex relationships. The same thing happened when the series was aired in the US as Cardcaptors. The DVD version released outside Japan were unedited though.
Cardcaptor Sakura Legacy
When Cardcaptor Sakura was released, it immediately became one of the top selling manga series of its time. In 2011, it received a Seiun Award for Best Manga. It is also one of the manga series that had multiple video games on its belt with ten games for both adventure and role-playing games. Aside from games, there were two animated films were produced based on the adventures of Sakura, the Cardcaptor Sakura: The Movir and The Sealed Card.
Why fans love Cardcaptor Sakura?
Cardcaptor Sakura is not your usual manga series with fight and battles in every scene basically because it is a shojo series. Still, fans love its excellent animation and few scenes for its creativeness. Unlike most manga series as well, there is no master villain in this series and the conflict is always within Sakura yet after reading the manga for 4 years and watching the anime for a few months, I can say that it is a great experience to grow with the characters.
